Visakhapatnam: While many concerned individuals, groups and NGOs have already begun their own green drive without any direction, the state government that was busy all these days with rescue and relief operations had finally got on to the ground.

On Sunday, a meeting with representatives of various government departments and PSUs was held and it was decided to prepare an action plan to make ‘Green Vizag’ with a slogan that each Vizagite should plant one plant to bring back the lost green glory of the city.

It was also decided that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on November 10 would launch the Green Drive in the city and a micro plan in this regard will be prepared soon. A control room with ph nos: 7702377377 / 7702377377 has been opened at the GVMC office to receive voluntary contributions for tree guards, fertilisers, pesticides and compost for the plantation. These phone lines will be active between 9am and 6pm everyday.

“We are also in consultation with local, national and international experts for making Vizag green. Not only locally available plants, we are also collecting plants from other states and also taking help from forest department. Around 50 lakh plants are readily available with the forests department. A few more lakhs are available at nurseries at Kadiam,” said municipal administration minister P. Narayana.
