Vijayawada: Irrigation officials on Sunday opened 35 crest gates of the Prakasam Barrage, releasing about 21,000 cusecs of water into the sea.

At present, the water level in the Barrage is at 12 feet. Floodwater from the Pulichintala project is expected to reach the Prakasam Barrage within the next two days.

Over 75,000 cusecs of water, which was released from the Pulichintala project  on Sunday night, reached the Barrage, said irrigation department deputy superintendent engineer D. Ramakrishna.
Meanwhile, inflows into the Krishna river may increase as several areas upstream received rainfall.

Officials received information from the Telangana state irrigation department that water release from Srisailam will be stopped. The local officials said that the inflows might decrease after two days if the water release was stopped at Srisailam.
