Warangal: A 60-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly poisoned his mother before committing suicide, police said on Tuesday.

B Komuraiah, of Boorugupadu village in Telangana's Warangal district, was depressed as he was unable to repay a loan he had taken for farming since his cotton and other crops got damaged due to lack of proper irrigation facilities, a circle inspector at Dornakal said.

On Monday night, Komuraiah first poisoned his 80-year-old mother Mutthava and then consumed the poisonous substance himself, the inspector said.

The village sarpanch informed the police about the incident.

Later, the bodies were sent for post-mortem. A case has been registered in this connection, police said adding, further investigation was on.

The deceased farmer is survived by his wife and two children.
