Hyderabad: Some parts of Telangana are likely to receive rainfall in the next couple of days as the severe cyclonic storm Nilofar, over the West-Central Arabian Sea, has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and is located about 1170 km southwest of Naliya, near the Gulf of Kutch.

Met officials warned of heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours in the districts of Khammam, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy and Medak of Telangana and  all districts of Rayalaseema, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of South coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The mercury dipped by almost 10ºC because of the approaching cyclonic storm. The maximum temperature recorded was 25.1ºC, while the minimum was 18.6ºC.

“Factors like rainfall, overcast skies, no sunshine and the northerly winds that bring the cold and heavy winds are causing the dip in temperatures. Districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh, however, will remain warmer as the Northeast monsoon has been vigorous. Whereas Telangana will remain relatively cooler for the next four days,” said K. Seetharam, director of IMD.

It will initially move north-northwest during the  course of the next 24 hours and then recurve northeastwards and cross north Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coast near Naliya by the morning of October 31.
