Over 100 houses flooded across city

Houses were facing the problem of overflowing drains for the last few days

Bengaluru: After a damp weekend, many Bengalureans woke up to misery on Monday morning as rain water mixed with sewage entered nearly 100 houses in Laggere, Kamakshipalya, C.K. Achukattu, H.S.R Layout, Yelahanka and Agara. BBMP officials said that over the last three days, nearly 250 houses have been flooded.Rudresh, a resident of 6th Cross, Laggere, said that they were facing the problem of overflowing drains for the last few days, but on Monday it was worse on Monday morning.
 
“The storm water drain behind our houses has been clogged for several months now.  Whenever we complain, the BBMP clear the drain, but within a few days the problem recurs,” he complained.
Ms Suma, a resident of H.S.R. Layout 6th Sector, said that most of the appliances in her house have been destroyed because flooding. “TV and washing machine are not working anymore. Why can’t the BBMP desilt and de-clog the drains before the monsoon arrives,” she asked.
 
BBMP control room officials said that nearly 15 trees were uprooted in three days in areas including Malleswaram, Jayanagar and Basavanagudi. “Most of the old trees fell because of heavy rains on Friday evening. Some incidents were reported Domlur, J.P Nagar and Girinagar on Monday morning too,” they said. The officials said that complaints of streetlights not functioning poured in over the last three days.
