Washington: A London-bound United Airlines flight from Los Angeles was promptly aborted just before take-off after a passenger's phone picked up the Wifi signal "al-Quida Free Terror Nettwork" (sic), that was emanating from a fellow flier's phone hotspot. Following complaints by concerned passengers, United Airlines staff cancelled Flight 136 and the plane was taxied to a remote secion of the LA airport and held there for three hours. The plane was also searched by security officials.
"After an hour, (the captain) said there was a security threat and that we didn't have clearance to take off," passenger Elliot Del Pra told ABC7.com. The person responsible for the hotspot was not discovered, a report in LaWeekly said. American Airlines said the flight was cancelled "out of an abundance of caution." Officials from Los Angeles airport (LAX) added there was no possibility of further action.
