Xiaomi replaces Huawei, becomes third-largest smartphone manufacturer
Research firm data shows that Xiaomi has zoomed from the fifth-largest to number 3
Xiaomi, known as the Apple of China, has stepped up the ladder to become the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.
A few months back, Xiaomi was placed on the fifth position. The three-year old company manufacturer is the youngest smartphone manufacturer in the world to accomplish the title till date.
Xiaomi has been known to provide high-end smartphones at low prices to cater to the masses. Unlike big giants such as Samsung, Apple, Sony and the rest, they believe in providing powerful smartphones by making lower profits. Below is the data revealed by IDC.
Xiaomi was placed at number 5 in July 2014, with Samsung ruling the top (number 1) position, followed by Apple, Huawei, and Lenovo respectively. Presently (see above image for statistics), Samsung still rules the top position, followed by Apple on number 2, Xiaomi at number 3, Lenovo at number 4 and LG at number 5. These numbers are derived from the IDC report, which places the companies in accordance to the number of smartphones shipped in the third quarter of 2014. With the number of smartphones being manufactured, shipped and sold, Xiaomi could outdo Apple to rise to number 2 in no time.
