Delhi LG to call all-party meeting to discuss government formation
Earlier the Constitution Bench of the SC criticised Mr Jung and the Centre
NEW DELHI: After briefing Union home minister Rajnath Singh on the prevailing political situation in the national capital, lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung said on Wednesday that he would explore the possibilities of government formation with leaders of all political parties over the next few days.
Mr Jung, who returned to Delhi from a trip abroad on Tuesday night, met Mr Singh on Wednesday morning and apprised him of his move to call all the political parties before taking a final call to end political uncertainty in the capital, which has been under the President’s Rule since February.
Sources said that the L-G, after holding consultations with the leaders of all the political parties, would invite the BJP to stake claim. It is reliably learnt that the L-G will give a week or 10 days to the BJP to prove its majority in the 67-member Assembly.
The LG’s meeting with Mr Singh came a day after the Constitution Bench of the SC criticised Mr Jung and the Centre over delay in taking a decision on government formation in New Delhi.
