Chennai: Look who has heaped laurels on chirpy Priya Anand, the fast rising star of K’town? It is none other than maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam! He praised the high energy of Priya Anand especially during the dance sequences.

Apparently, Mani Ratnam’s protégé Kannan is ready with his next Oru Oorla Rendu Raja which stars Vemal, Soori, Priya Anand and Vishaka Singh in the lead. To mark his respect for his guru, Kannan screened two songs Sundari Penne and Mazhai Kaathhaga Nee Sutthi Adi from his film for Mani. Impressed with Priya’s dance and the kind of energy she has infused into them, Mani, known for his monosyllables, appreciated the Arima Nambi heroine.

Confirming the news Kannan tells DC, “I always take my mentor’s blessings before my film’s release by screening the film or songs from it, depending on sir’s availability. Yes, after watching rain song Mazhai which was shot in Mani’s style, I saw a smile on his face indicating that he liked it. He did praise Priya.”  Produced by Michael Rayappan, the movie is scheduled for a release on November 7.

When Priya was informed about Mani Ratnam’s good words about her, the petite actress was thrilled. She said, “I am blessed. These are really encouraging words and that too coming from a filmmaker who redefined Indian cinema. On an earlier occasion Suhasini madam had said that Mani sir liked my acting in Arima Nambi.”
