Policemen blame rapes on ‘lack of entertainment options’
Lucknow: In response to a RTI query, the UP police have stated that western culture, mobile phones and lack of entertainment are the main reasons for increasing rape incidents in the state.
RTI activist Lokesh Khurana had sought details on the number of rapes in Uttar Pradesh and also wanted to know the reason behind spurt in crime against women.
The responses he received on Wednesday came from the police in 62 districts. The RTI activist said that he will now file a PIL against the UP police.
Policemen from Nasirpur in the Ferozabad blamed rapes on the “lack of entertainment options” and said that the ay women dress tempts “men with wrong intentions.”
The cops in Moradabad district said television and vulgar advertisements led to rape cases.
In Meerut, policemen reportedly said the increased use of electronics and the deluge of information through digital media was dangerous and too much to handle.
Police stations in Etawah suggested that too much socialising between boys and girls led to such crimes while the cops in Hapur mentioned “illegal relationships and vulgar telecasts” as the main reason.
