HyderabadIn another major blow to the Congress in Telangana, two MLAs and a former MLA have decided to join the Telangana Rashtra Samiti.

Senior Congress leader and Dornakal MLA D.S. Redya Naik, his daughter, former MLA Kavitha, and Chevella MLA K. Yadaiah met TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office on Thursday and expressed their desire to join the TRS.

From the initial 63 MLAs, the TRS’ strength has been steadily growing and has now crossed 70 following the defections from the Congress, TD and the BSP.

The party’s strength in the Legislative Council too has increased from four to 16 since the elections, which has given the party complete sway in both the Assembly and the Council.

Interestingly, both Mr Naik and Mr Yadaiah had defeated TRS candidates in the 2014 general elections.“KCR garu is a strong leader, doing a good job and striving to achieve Bangaru Telangana.

He is committed to the development of Telangana. Bangaru Telangana is possible only through him. Hence I decided to join the TRS,” Mr Naik said after meeting Mr Rao.

Mr Yadaiah said, “I joined the TRS for the developmental and welfare initiatives taken by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and also to ensure development of my Chevella Assembly constituency.”

LB Nagar Congress leader S. Ranadhir Reddy and other party leaders also joined the TRS in the presence of  TRS MP Kavitha.
