Hyderabad: Legendary athlete Milkha Singh has been appointed the brand ambassador of the Hyderabad 10K run, the 12th edition of which will be held in the city on November 30. The event that saw 10,000 people participating last year is expected to get bigger and will have 15,000 runners according to upbeat organisers. “This year we are expecting a large number of participants from the corporate sector and education sector. We are expecting a lot of kids especially from schools, to participate in the event,” Uma Chigurupati, chairperson of Hyderabad 10K Run Foundation, told a press conference on Thursday.
Would Milkha Singh take part in the run? “I am not really sure about him running, but he has accepted our request to grace the event and will definitely be a part of it,” Uma said. The 10K marathon will have two categories —Indians and internationals — each will have a male and a female winner. The prize money for the winner in each category is Rs1,50,000. The 7K maza run will not carry any prize money. The registration process for the event will start on Friday.
The registration fees are: Rs550 (runners would be provided a t-shirt, a chip, a bib or chest number and a goody bag), Rs350 (t-shirt + bib + goody bag) and Rs150 (just the bib). However, “with the registration money we will barely be able to break-even hence are looking for corporate sponsorship to raise the money for the NGOs we wish to support,” Uma said.
School children will join hands with United Way of Hyderabad, the official charity partner of the Run, to generate funds for underprivileged kids.
