Chhattisgarh agrees to give 1,000MW power to Telangana
Telangana government plans to generate 16,000MW of power in the next three years
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who will sign an MoU with Chhattisgarh to supply 1,000MW of power to power-starved Telangana on Monday, spent Sunday visiting farms.
“If the farmers in the country want remunerative prices, import of food grains from abroad should stop. The Centre and the state should seriously think about it,” remarked Mr Rao.
The Chief Minister was interacting with farmers at a modern farm in Kohadia village in Bemetra district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday.
“Farmers work hard to raise the crops, but they are unable to get remunerative prices for their produce. The only solution is to stop import of food grains,” the Chief Minister remarked.
“I am a farmer’s son and a farmer. I have a farm in Medak district. During the Telangana movement, I heard about modern VNR seed research in Chhattisgarh. The MD of the company Vimal personally invited me and I promised to visit after formation of Telangana to exchange ideas,” he explained.
“Chhattisgarh is providing 24-hour power supply. Once our power projects go online, we will also provide be able to do so. We are going through a severe power crisis and have requested your CM to help us,” Mr Rao added.
He said Telangana government plans to generate 16,000MW of power in the next three years. Though Telangana government sought 2,000 MW of power, the Chhattisgarh government has agreed to give 1,000MW since some of the power projects were hit by cancellation of coal blocks.
