Plans afoot to revive 480 water tanks
Government also plans to develop plantation around the tanks
Khammam: The Telangana state government has devised an action plan to revive 480 tanks in the district in the first phase by November 20.
It also finalised plans to develop a tank bund in each Assembly constituency, on a medium sized tank where the Bathukamma festival would be organised.
The tank bund should be developed as an icon of the concerned segment.
The Telangana government had decided to revive 960 of the 4,821 tanks in the district in the first year. The first phase will see the revival of 480 tanks.
An estimated 260 tmc feet of water can be restored if all the 4,500+ tanks are revived and barren land in the state could be used for irrigation, according to the government’s plan.
These tanks would be used to supply drinking water to the proposed water grids in the state.
The district administration has also been asked to identify the tanks that would be the most helpful to the farmers, so that they could be revived in the first phase.
The government plans to develop plantation around the tanks as part of the revival efforts.
District collectors have been asked to make the village revenue officers part of the project.
