Hyderabad: A soldier shot himself with his service rifle at the Mehdipatnam Garrison area early on Monday morning. Police and Army said he was among several others who were questioned in connection with the murder of an 11-year old boy early last month

Lance Naik P. Appalaraju, 32, shot himself on his chin while he was on duty at about 4.30 am, a West Zone police official said. He died on the spot. No suicide note was found. Police suspects he committed suicide due to stress following the investigation.

On October 9, Syed Mustafa was found with burns inside the garrison area and succumbed a few hours later. In a dying statement to a magistrate, the boy said that “an army man” had set him ablaze.
