Coimbatore: Hundreds of DMK workers and functionaries in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts staged a protest on Monday against the state government’s decision to hike the price of Aavin milk and the proposal to increase electricity tariff.
In an attempt to capitalise on the public mood against Aavin milk price hike and the proposed power tariff hike, DMK cadres gathered in front of Red Cross Society here on Monday.
Former DMK minister Pongalur Palanisamy led the protest.
During the demonstration, DMK cadres waved the party flag and raised slogans against the state government and sought an immediate rollback of the milk price hike.
“The hike of milk price will hurt the budget of the lower middle-class and middle-class people. When the entire industry is facing a critical situation in Coimbatore, the government should not increase the power tariff,” said Mr Palanisamy.
Similar demonstration was held in Tirupur district, led by former minister M.P. Swaminathan, in which hundreds of DMK workers took part.
