Vijayawada: Even as the state government is said to be contemplating making some changes in the package pertaining to the land pooling proposal in the capital region to pacify farmers, not much of a breakthrough is expected.

In fact, the farmers’ resolve against the idea of sacrificing their lands was more visible by some panchayats passing resolutions against the proposal.

Monday began with the news that the government plans some amendments to the package to appease the farmers.

However, undeterred by this, the Mandadam, Uddhandarayunipalem, Lingayapalem and Rayapudi village panchayats passed resolutions rejecting the government’s land pooling formula.

Farmers of Nidamarru, Kuragallu and Nirukonda expressed solidarity with the above said villages and soon these panchayats are expected to follow suit, said M. Seshagiri Rao of Rayapudi.

Telugu Rythu state secretary B. Narsimha Rao, who has been touring villages, said that the farmers are in no mood to simply trust the promises of officials or ministers unless their MLA Tenali Shravan Kumar is on board of all the committees relating to capital formation.

He said that farmers were insisting that any meetings in their villages should be held only in the presence of Mr Shravan Kumar and their doubts cleared.

Mr Narsimha Rao said that while some wetland villages are vehemently against the proposal, some farmers of dryland villages may give their land, albeit with conditions.
