Suicide not a sign of guilt, says Army
His mobile phone showed that he was near the spot where the boy
Hyderabad: Defence officials in their official statement said, “He was one of the over 70 persons being interrogated by the police in the case in Mehdipatnam, and the Army is fully cooperating with the SIT in the investigations.”
Army officials said that the investigation teams visited the suicide spot and an inquiry was in progre-ss. “His suicide should not be taken as an indication of his involvement in the case as speculations are being raised, questioning the involvement of the deceased soldier in the Mehdipatnam incident. Probably, the jawan was under immense mental stress due to the ongoing interrogation. The Army is cooperating with the police and wants the truth to come out at the earliest,” said the defence spokesperson.
After post-mortem at the Osmania General Hospital, the body was taken to his hometown in Visakhapatnam.
Sources in Hyderabad police said that his mobile phone showed that he was near the spot where the boy was murdered, and he was therefore questioned.
However, he had denied the allegation and said that he had gone there to give his clothes for laundry.
