BJD MP arrested in Ponzi scam

The CBI had raided the residences of the three politicians in July

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested BJD MP and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s another close associate Rama Chandra Hansda and two former MLAs in connection with the multi-crore chit fund scam. The two arrested ex-MLAs are Subarna Nayak of the BJD and Hitesh Bagartti of the BJP.
 
A CBI spokesperson said  the three were arrested for “criminal conspiracy, cheating and fund diversion.”
On Tuiesday afternoon, all the three were summoned to the CBI regional headquarters here for the third time in 12 days, for interrogation. 
 
Ramachandra Hansda is the secretary of the BJD parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha. Hitesh Bagartti and Subarna Nayak were denied tickets by the BJP and the BJD respectively in the last general elections.
 
The CBI had raided the residences of the three politicians in July and had seized some documents, besides Rs 28 lakh in cash from Mr Hansda’s Rairangpur residence.
 
The three arrested leaders were directors of Naba Diganta Capital Services , a ponzi firm that has allegedly taken nearly Rs 8 crore from small depositors. The firm’s CMD Anjan Kumar Baliarsingh and two directors, Kartikeya Parida and Pradeep Patnaik, were arrested October 26.
