Visakhapatnam: Prices of vegetables in Visakhapatnam have spiraled post-Hudhud and are not expected to lower anytime soon. While onions, tomatoes and potatoes are easily available and are being sold at a reasonable price, other veggies are not available of good quality and are being sold at high prices.
Vegetables like okra, capsicum, french beans and brinjal are being sold at prices ranging between Rs 35-Rs 60 with capsicum and french beans bearing the highest cost, Rs55 and Rs60. Same is the case with green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek, sorrel, amaranth, mint, coriander and curry leaves.
A Rythu Bazaar official, G. Prasad, said, “Since Hudhud has destroyed vegetable farms in Vizag and Vizianagaram, most of the vegetables reach city from East and West Godavari, Krishna, Rajahmundry and Chittoor districts.”
