Limiting one's consumption to only some vegetables may cause a nutritional loss to the body
Vijayawada: Skyrocketing prices of  vegetables in  Vijaya-wada are forcing vegetables to vanish from the dining table. People are restricting themselves to buying only affordable  vegetables, even  repeating the same vegetables at least twice a week.Malleswara Rao said, “The price of ivy gourd, potato, beans, capsicum, carrots and other vegetables  have increased  by at least 30 per cent compared to last week. So, I’ve been buying tomatoes, cabbage, ladies finger and leafy vegetables almost two or three times a week.”

Limiting one’s consumption to  only some vegetables may cause a nutritional loss to the body. Dr. G. Swarna Latha, a nutritional expert said, “The human body needs different types of nutritional values including proteins, fats, carbohydrates, iron and folic acids. Limiting ourselves to some vegetables makes us deficient  in other nutritional values. We should make a habit of including fruits  in the meal.”

Non-vegetarians  are also facing a tough  time with the rising  price of chicken and fish. Sunil Kumar said, “The price of chicken has increased  by  Rs 10 per kg while  that of fish has  increased by about  Rs 20-Rs 30  compared to last week.”M. Ramesh Babu, estate officer of Swarajya Maidan Rythu Bazaar, assured there will be a drop in prices by the month end.

He said, “Consumers will need to wait until the month end for dropping down of the prices. As the winter season is coming, the vegetable yield will increase and bring down the prices.”
