Vijayawada: The Telugu Desam, which launched its membership drive, may face stiff resistance in riverfront villages of Guntur district, which are traditionally its stronghold as the villagers are opposing the government’s land pooling proposal. Residents of the 17 villages in the state capital region are upset with the proposal as they stand to lose their fertile lands.
 
A die-hard TD supporter of Mandadam village said that though the villages are known as TD bastion, they have no option but to oppose the party to protect their lands. He said that the people were caught in piquant situation since they had worked hard for the victory of TD in the elections.
