Kochi: This is a ‘Flower Show’ with a difference. Visitors to the three-day event being organised by a Kochi school will not only enjoy the sight of roses, orchids and anthuriums among a host of other flowers on display, but also learn the tricks of establishing a garden of their own at very little cost.
The eco-friendly intiative has been thought up by students of Our Ladies Convent Girls Higher Secondary School, Thoppumpaddy, who will give valuable tips on establishing gardens to visitors to the flower show which begins on Friday. Entry will be free for all.
“Our role model is a resident of Kochi, who grows a rich variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables in his sprawling garden right in the middle of the city. The flowers on display are all from Dr P J Abraham's collection. The students will conduct the flower show in his garden at Padamughal near Kakkanad,” said Sr Lissy Chakalakkal, social programme coordinator of the school , explaining that this was the institution's small contribution to conserving greenery in the city.
“In this fast paced life, no one has time to care for nature and so we are losing trees and all our green cover really fast. Our little initiative is aimed at creating awareness about the need to have a garden in each home just like the one in Dr Abhraham’s house,” added Sr. Lissy.
For Dr Abhraham, founder and chairman of Divine Real Estates and Developers Pvt Ltd, gardening and cultivation on a small scale has always been a passion and so he was only too happy to support the school in its green venture.
