2.34 lakh more voters in J&K; Notification for 2nd phase issued
The number of voters in the State has risen to 2.7 per cent
Srinagar: The Election Commission on Friday issued notification for the second phase of the five-phased Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In this phase, eighteen out of the 87 Assembly segments will go to the polls on December 2. In the first phase, polling is scheduled to take place on November 25.
In the second phase, nine Assembly segments each are going to polls in Jammu and Kashmir Valley regions of the state, spread over five districts of Kupwara, Kulgam, Reasi, Udhampur and Poonch.
The last date for filing nominations is November 14. The scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on November 15 while the last date for withdrawal of nomination is on November 17, the notification said. The counting of votes for all five phases has been fixed for December 23.
Meanwhile, the scrutiny of nomination papers of the candidates for the 15 segments going to the polls on November 25 were held on Friday, official sources said. The number of voters in the State has risen to 72 lakh, an increase of 2.7 per cent from since the month of April this year when Lok Sabha elections were held, the sources said.

As per the latest official statistics, as many as 2,34,162 new voters have registered themselves taking the total registered voters to 7,225,559 from 6,991,397 since the last Lok Sabha polls. While the Kashmir Valley has registered an increase of 1,53,423 voters from the Lok Sabha polls, there has been an increase of 81,698 voters from 32,29,740 electorate to 33,11,438 voters in Jammu region. However, Ladakh region has shown a decline of 3,959 voters from 1,64,885 voters in Lok Sabha polls to 1,60,926.
