Kochi: The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has got into the LIMCA book of records for solving the most number of cases —152—  in a single day.
The major feat was  achieved on December 23, 2013 and LIMCA  conveyed its approval to the forum authorities the other day.

According to sources, LIMCA sent an e-mail communication  to the forum confirming the entry into the list. Mr A. Rajesh was the president of the forum when the highest number of cases was considered and disposed of.

In the Ernakulam forum,  a large number of cases are filed. “This is the first of its kind achievement by a forum,” said RTI activist D.B. Binu. He added that the district forum was  also the best when it came to the disposal rate. “The forum will be known for the highest disposal rate and it also has  qualitative disposal of cases. The forum can be termed as one of the most consumer-friendly in the state,” he added.

Recently,  in a major verdict the forum had observed that demanding handling/incidental charges for the delivery of vehicles did not have any statutory backing, and hence was not legally valid. The verdict,  the first of its kind in the country, helped  many consumers.
