Bad for women, then it is bad for men too: Nirmala Sitharaman
Sitharaman felt that girls should have freedom and opportunities on par with boys
Vijayawada: Lashing out at those who propagate that Western attire was the root cause of atrocities against women, Union minister of state for commerce and industries Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that if that was the case, then the restrictions should be applicable to men too and they should be banned from wearing jeans and other Western dress.
Speaking at a statewide girls convention organised by ABVP, Ms Sitharaman felt that girls should have freedom and opportunities on par with boys. She also encouraged girls to speak out against discrimination.

“There is a glass ceiling in our culture that does not allow women to be equal with men. The discrimination starts from home and parents do not allow their daughters to be treated equally. Girls are told to be submissive and do domestic chores while boys enjoys freedom. This must be changed. Parents must have the same yardsticks for girls and boys.”
