Balotsav-2014 begins on grand note

Competitions in folk dance, bharata natyam and others held

Khammam: Balostav-2014, a national le-vel three-day children festival, has commenced amid fanfare in Kothagudem on Friday. Nearly 2,000 kids from five states including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karna-taka, AP and Orissa, besi-des Telangana reached to the coal town to showcase their talent in Telugu language, culture, traditions, folk songs and dances. The organisers expect that another 15,000 kids from Telangana would participate in the event in the next three days.
 
A 14-member delegation of Telugu children from Pushpa Vihar School, Delhi, was the main attraction. Mahathi, head of the delegation, hoisted the Balostav flag. Blind boy and 'Rela Re Rela' fame Rasheed participated in the programme. The Telugu Bhasha Shatakam, a CD prepared by Srinivas, headmaster of a government high school, and another music album on Kothagudem Balostav, made by Vengala Bhaskar, were inaugurated by Ande Sri, a renowned poet.
 
Competitions such as painting, playlet analysis, Telugu speaking, folk and lig-ht songs, poetry, bharata natyam, kuchipudi, folk da-nce, quiz and playlet plan were held on the first day. Balostav convenor V. Ramesh said that the festival started as town event in 1991 had reached national level now.
