Madurai: As many as 100 Amma children’s parks, at the rate of one in each ward, will come up in Madurai.
Following a resolution adopted at the corporation council meeting on the creation of Amma children’s parks in all the 100 wards in the city, the civic body has undertaken steps to identify land.
In the first phase, a park is being created at Bethaniapuram (ward 21) in zone I. It is equipped with play equipment such as slides, swings and other paraphernalia which mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa, minister Sellur K. Raju, commissioner C. Kathiravan, city engineer Mathuram and other officers inspected on Friday.
The mayor instructed the officers to give prime importance to children’s safety while planning and erecting play equipment. He also ordered to immediately replace a slide which seemed to pose a threat to children’s safey. Mr Chellappa asked the staff to fill the park with mud and put up benches and expedite work.
