Women should speak up: Nirmala Sitharaman
Sitharaman said that India does not need Western feminism
Vijayawada: Union minister of state for commerce and industries Nirmala Sitharaman said that India does not need Western feminism while addressing the students at an ABVP meeting at Vijayawada. “We do not need Western feminism. We need to find ways for ourselves in society, family and at individual levels,” she added
“Girls should start questioning to protect themselves. Questioning keeps misbehaving men at a distance and helps a woman become a leader. Women are not commodities. They should stand up and speak,” she said.
To those who say that dressing is the reason for atrocities against women, she questioned, “How are 60 and 70-year-old women raped in the country? What motivated the men to rape them? Do not use lame excuses like decent or indecent clothes as reason for atrocities.” she added.
