Google’s Project Ara has a competitor
Modular phones will be the next necessity in the smartphone industry
Smartphones are the only device, which have evolved from just being a voice communication medium into a full-fledged handheld computer. What was never imagined in the late nineties is now a reality and one can actually use the smartphone as a portable computer.
There are thousands of different brands and manufacturers and each and every one are making a handset considering the price, features and quality, depending on the segments they are placed in. This is great when it comes to consumer choice with respect to price or performance. However, there are too many smartphones out there and making the choice of the right smartphone is a pain. Either they look good and are not economical or they are pretty affordable, but not powerful enough. While some may sport a great camera, others might have a better display or battery. Considering from a consumer’s angle, there is not a single smartphone which offers the right balance of price and performance.
Google headed to try solving this problem and they have been working on a project for long. Project Ara, was a concept smartphone where almost every part of the smartphone was interchangeable, and hence upgradeable. Similar to a desktop computer in which you can change or upgrade the processor, storage, display or practically everything, smartphones are also entering the same era.
Project Ara will be a reality next year with working prototypes already being show off. The smartphone will be completely modular with interchangeable options for display, processor, camera, battery, speaker, storage and almost everything. However, Project Ara has now got a competitor.

Welcome Vsenn, a company by former Nokia’s Android X program manager. However, there is not much information about the modular smartphone as yet since they have just come up with their website and have been teasing with a few pictures of the new concept. For now, the modular smartphone can change only three things—the camera, battery and processor with RAM.
