Vijayawada: The case of a mother selling her six-day-old baby came to light on Saturday after the mother herself approached the government officials at Janmabhumi programme being organised at Kandrika near Vijayawada.
S.K. Noor Jahan wife of S.K. Mastan, a daily-wager, sold their new-born daughter to one Naga Mani at Chittinagar a couple of days back and came to their hometown, Kandrika.
However, the mother, who could not bear the pain, walked to the Janmabhoomi programme being organised in the same area and approached the officials.
Nodal officer of the programme Om Prakash, who learnt the case, approached the Integrated Child Development Services officials and lodged a complaint.
With the help of Nunna police, local ICDS supervisor Girija launched a search for Naga Mani, who had purchased the baby in Rs 5,000. The baby is yet to be recovered.
In another similar case at A. Konduru, ICDS officials united a mother and her baby girl after she was sold to or illegally adopted by another woman.
