New Delhi: Soon after the Swachh Bharat campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to be planning another major initiative to prevent the use of narcotics among the youth.
Government sources said PM Modi is extremely keen that youth who are drug addicts need to be brought back into mainstream society and that the drug menace needed to be prevented.
The Prime Minister, sources said, is keen that the government launch an aggressive anti-drugs campaign at three different levels increased health services for better rehabilitation of those already addicted, greater awareness in schools and colleges against use of narcotics and stringent enforcement of measures against narcotics smuggling.
The PMO will soon initiate discussions with ministries, including health, HRD and home, as to how the scheme can be implemented at the ground level. Sources said there is increasing concern in government about the rapid spread of drugs even in smaller states and in rural areas.
Border states like Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Northeast states, have been facing a major drug menace for some years now. India has become a major transit point for narcotics smuggling and money from this is also used to finance terror.
