I ate 100 paans in a day: Aamir Khan
The actor talks about learning Bhojpuri and his co-actor Sanjay Dutt in his upcoming flick PK
Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, recently launched the first song Tharki chokro from his mysterious upcoming movie PK. Director, Rajkumar Hirani, accompanied him at the launch sans actress Anushka Sharma. Surprisingly, neither Aamir nor Rajkumar revealed anything about the movie.
Although the media persons constantly showed their dismay over the same, Aamir charmed them by conveying that he wants to keep the plot a secret and he will definitely reveal something through teasers from time to time.
Since the song that he launched was titled Tharki chokro, when quizzed if he’d had any tharki moments when he was younger, he laughed, “Most people won’t believe me when I say I was very shy.
I clearly remember that I used to have a hard time talking to girls. Also, since they knew that I was so shy they used to pass comments on me. I never had the courage to even look at them. ”
He further added that the use of the word tharki is not meant to be taken otherwise and is merely connoted in a loving and humorous way. All the way through the movie Aamir reportedly will be seen speaking Bhojpuri and eating paan, he added, “There isn’t a single line which is non-Bhojpuri in PK.
It was an exciting challenge. I had a Bhojpuri teacher, Shanti Bhushan, who taught me how to speak the language phonetically correct.” He further added that he even used to eat almost hundred paans in a day to get the character right.
Rajkumar agreed and added, “Aamir had to eat almost seven to eight paans before every take and due to this, he also suffered from burnt tongue and sore throat.”
Rajkumar Hirani who is noted to give movie characters some really unique names like Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad, Phunsukh Wangdu, etc, when quizzed about how did he come up with Sanjay’s name for PK shared, “Whenever we write a script it’s fun to experiment and come up with unique names.
Bhariv Singh Bandwala is a Rajasthani name. While I feel most filmmakers won’t like giving bizarre names to their lead protagonist and try and keep it simple with Rahul, Ajay or Prem whereas, I always like keeping quirky names.” To this, Aamir quickly shared, “Anushka’s name is Jagat Jannani in this movie.”
Talking about Sanjay Dutt, Aamir says, “He is like an elder brother full of warmth and love.” Aamir also said that he is trying to get permission from authorities to arrange a special screening for Sanjay, who is housed inside the Yerwada Central Jail in Pune.
