Mumbai:  MS Dhoni will miss the first Test against Australia starting on December 4. BCCI, who met to pick the Indian squad for the Australia Test series, announced on Monday. In Dhoni's absence, Virat Kohli will lead India in the Brisbane Test starting on December 4.

The Indian selectors have picked Karnataka opener KL Rahul in the squad as the third opener. The 23-year-old batsman has had a fantastic season wherein he had scored 1000 runs. His two centuries (185 and 130) in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy final helped him raise his stakes.

The leggie, Karn Sharma, too is joining the Indian Test squad that would tour Australia. While he is yet to represent Indian in Tests, the Indian selectors have picked the orthodox leg break bowler.

Suresh Raina, who last represented India in Test in 2012, has made a comeback to Indian Test squad.

Dhoni will also remain unavailable for the final two ODIs of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. Team India skipper is carrying an injury in his right arm, according to reports.

While the selectors have decided to rest Shikhar Dhawan for the final two ODis, they have brought back Rohit Sharma who has recovered from an injury.
