Hubballi: A Border Security Force soldier from Halligudi village of Mundaragi taluk in Gadag district was killed in the unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir.

The deceased, Mallappa Channalli (40), who was serving as Hawaldar for the last 19 years, had had another two years of service.

A pall of gloom descended on the village after the news about his death was conveyed to the family by the Army on Sunday night.

He is survived by his two sons and wife, who are in Koppal. His brother Basavaraj Channalli said that Mallappa visited the village in September and spent few days with the family.

The soldier’s last remains will reach the village on Tuesday and will be laid to rest the same day with full of state honours.
