New Delhi: Lack of performance, not being able to push through projects, along with his inability to curb corruption in the railways apparently led to easing out of Union minister D.V. Sadanand Gowda from the Rail Bhavan.
In October, Railway Board official Ravi Mohan Sharma was arrested by the CBI for taking bribe to run special tourist trains. Furthermore, the CBI had raided premium trains on a tip-off that passengers were being served counterfeit and sub-standard bottled drinking water.
With Mr Gowda spending most of his time in Bengaluru, the railways ministry hardly saw any change with the change in government, sources said. In contrast, Mr Prabhu is widely reputed to be a tough task master and an able administrator, who can gear up the Railway Board to perform on priorities listed by the PM.
