Man sets terms to donate dad's eyes
RaipurA man, serving as a teacher in a state government-run school in Chhattisgarh, has put a strange condition before a medical team which visited his house to honour pledges made by his father to donate his eyes after his death, saying, “No criminal should see in my father’s eyes”.

The incident, that took place in Kurud town in Dhamtari district, nearly 70 km from here recently, has left the medical team baffled, according to a senior eye bank officer here. The teacher, whose name was not disclosed to conceal the donor’s identity, had insisted on taking a pledge from the medical team to ensure that his deceased father’s eyes should not be transplanted in a convict or even an under-trial.

Theteam had returned disappointed when all their efforts to convince him that no condition is attached for eye donation proved futile. “It was indeed a very peculiar situation we had encountered. We tried to convince him that eye donation is a sacred thing and putting conditions for it amounts to commercialisation, but without any result”, an official said.
