New Delhi: While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee feels the heat with the Centre asking for a report, Monday’s blast has once again created uneasiness between the Centre and state with the NIA sleuths unhappy with the pace of the probe.
Union home ministry sources said the NIA was likely to make Monday’s blast a part of its ongoing probe if the state police was unable to crack it.
The NIA also found that Amjad Sheikh, an arrested accused in the Burdwan blast case, was sheltered by a constable of the Sashastra Police Bal, a central paramilitary force, after he escaped from West Bengal. The SSB was asked to take appropriate action in the matter.
After the blast, Amjad was in Delhi on October 8 from where he went to Basti in Uttar Pradesh and was given shelter by an SSB constable. Sources said the constable, who is originally from Birbhum, knew Amjad and helped him reach his brother’s place in Chennai in Tamil Nadu on October 12 .
While Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate was initially claiming crackers were used to play a mischief, the NIA found traces of explosives material in Monday’s blast.
Sources said the state had been asked not to take the incident lightly and share all the evidence with central security agencies. When NSA Ajit Doval had met Ms Banerjee last month, the Centre had impressed upon the CM that the local police may pull up its socks on the probe.
