PM Narendra Modi looks at Seoul model for smart cities
The ambitious urban development project envisages building 100 cities in near future
New Delhi: Singapore, Seoul and Barcelona may not have much in common, but the Narendra Modi government is so impressed with these three cities that it wants to combine their best practices and infrastructure to develop India’s very own “Smart City”.
The ambitious urban development project envisages building 100 such cities in the near future. The best practices adopted and implemented in these three cities — excellent public transport system, high-speed Internet, impressive bus shelters, pneumatic waste management system and use of next-generation information and communication technology — will be emulated in an appropriate manner that will suit the Indian climate.
Urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, whose ministry has been tasked to build these ultra-modern cities, has already visited Singapore and Seoul seeing for himself how these cities have been made “smart” while providing world-class facilities for their citizens without compromising on environment.
