ASI arrested for raping tribal woman
The victim is five months’ pregnant

KASARGOD: An additional sub-inspector of police attached to the Aadhoor police station in Kasargod has been arrested for sexually assaulting a tribal woman.
The victim, who is five months’ pregnant, had complained that ASI P.V. Sugunan, 50, and another person raped her after taking her to a lodge in Surbamania in Karnataka.
The woman had come to the police station seeking help to get her money back from one of her relatives, said the police. It was Sugunan who helped her in the case and he continued to be in touch with her.
He later exploited this friendship. The woman lodged a complaint with the women’s cell against Sugunan, following which he was arrested and remanded.
