Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman died after falling into a nala and getting washed away at the Uppal bus stop. A similar incident was reported on October 5 when 66-year-old Hemanth Kumar Sahay, a resident of Street No. 6, Himayat nagar, died when he fell into an open manhole.
While the GHMC officials have been conducting review meetings on property tax collection etc. not a single meeting has been conducted so far regarding storm water drains and the desilting of nalas.
“Every year, in May nalas are desilted. But that is not enough. We have been requesting the authorities to conduct desilting of nalas in December, March and April as well, so that there won’t be any overflowing. The commissioner or the mayor have never looked into this seriously and nothing has been done,” said a GHMC corporator.
