Hyderabad: The AP government has asked officials of the Board of Intermediate Education to make preparations to conduct First Year Interme-diate examinations from March 11 and Second Year examinations from March 12.

AP HRD (education) minister Ganta Srinivas Rao said a tentative examination schedule of Intermediate First and Second Year had already been prepared by the Board of Intermediate Education.

The AP government wants the intermediate public examinations to be conducted jointly by AP and Telangana state, i.e. to continue the existing system of common examination for students of both states.

“The file pertaining to the examinations schedule (time-table) has been sent by the AP government to the Telangana State government. We hope that the Telangana government will accept the schedule and agree for a common examination in the larger interest of students,” Mr Rao said.

It may be mentioned that the Telangana government has been insisting on conducting a separate Inter exams for Telangana students. However, it is yet to take a final decision on this issue. If the Telangana government rejects AP’s exam schedule, both the governments will be involved in yet another “inter-state dispute” after a row over sharing of power, water and finances.

The minister added that the AP government was also seriously discussing a proposal to do away with the First Year intermediate examinations from the next academic year and conduct only one annual examination for two years combined.

There is also a proposal to make changes in the EAMCET examination. “We will take the opinion of academicians and intellectuals before taking a final decision,” he said.

On the delay over issue of District Selection Committee (DSC) notification for recruitment of teachers, Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the issue was still pending with the central government. “The AP government wants to extend the DSC for recruitment of secondary grade teachers to even B.Ed. qualified candidates. The AP government is pursuing it with the Centre though it has unofficially said that rules would not permit to allow B.Ed. candidates to be eligible for SGT posts. But we will complete recruitment through DSC by next academic year,” he said.

On selection of vice-chancellors in four universities, he said a nation-wide notification would be issued and a search committee would be constituted soon to finalise the names of regular VCs.
