Khammam: Different towns in Khammam district turned out to be centres for fake currency gangs. Nearly eight gangs were nabbed during the last nine years. The gangs, which use information technology extensively for printing fake currency, have chosen Bhadracha-lam, Yellandu, Aswarao-pet and Sattupalli as centres. The gangs chose youth who were in dire conditions and lured them into the business.
The nabbing of a four-member gang including Madhu, Kalyan, Ramesh and Jagan, residents of Upperu under Kukunoor mandal, revealed that they had learnt printing fake notes by watching crime stories telecast on different news channels. They were nabbed while exchanging fake notes in Bhadrachalam and nearly 44 fake notes of Rs1000, Rs500 and Rs100 denominations were recovered from them.
Three natives of Khammam district were nabbed at Nandigama in Krishna disrtrict while transporting fake currency notes in September this year. Ambothula Nagaraju alias Nagaraj, a native of Bhadrachalam, was nabbed along with 5 associates in 2008. Two persons were held for being associated with a racket in Sattupalli in 2007.
