Kochi: The state government has sent a mammoth 33-member list for Padma awards 2014, which includes Mohanlal for Padma Bhushan and Jagathy Sreekumar for Padmasree. The state also recommended P.Gopinathan Nair, chairman of Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, for Padma Bhushan. The list for Padmasree include historian M.G.S. Narayanan, singer P. Jayachandran, lyricist Yusufali Kecheri and  Kathakali artist Mathoor Govindan Kutty.

The list was prepared by a cabinet subcommittee though the centre had specifically asked the state to constitute a search committee for the recommendation. The list was revealed after RTI activist D.B. Binu sent  an RTI query regarding the list. According to Mr Binu,  the state could have appointed a search committee for finding the right persons for the Padma awards.

Veteran journalist K.M. Roy is also included in the list.  Singers M.G. Sreekumar and  K.G. Jayan are  listed for Padmasree. Eight doctors, including oncologist V.P. Gangadharan, are also in the list.  Soorya Krishna Moorthy, who found his name in  the list last year, is also recommended.

Other noted personalities in the list are novelist Perumbadavam Sreedharan, George Onakkoor, sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman, mridangam artist Kuzhalmannam G. Ramakrishnan and Hindustani vocalist Pandit Ramesh Narayan.
