India accounts for 14 per cent of passport issuance

Guwahati: External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday said that India is the third largest passport issuing country of the world after China and the US.
In a recorded speech, which was played during the inauguration of third Passport Seva Kendra of Northeast, she said, “India accounts for 14 per cent of passport issuance and is the third largest passport issuing country after China and the US, with over 5.7 crore passports users in the country.”
Ms Swaraj could not reach Shillong as her helicopter could not land in the city due to bad weather.
