Thiruvananthapuram:The CPM state committee on Saturday left the decision on launching an agitation and campaign on the bribe charges against Finance Minister K.M. Mani to the LDF. The LDF state committee is scheduled to meet on Monday. At the two-day state committee meeting which began here at the AKG Centre, the CPM leadership also decided to raise its demand at the LDF meeting for a court-monitored probe by the Special Investigation Team into the bribe charges against Mr Mani.
Sources said CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan made light of the CPI criticism of the party saying that the party did not take it seriously. He pointed out that if the CPI went ahead with similar criticism in future then the party would be forced to give a suitable reply. However, he said the party was not for confrontation with the CPI at this juncture.
Meanwhile, the LDF state committee will take a final call on the nature of the probe and discuss the views expressed by the allies on the issue.
While the CPM is insisting on a court-monitored probe, the CPI has favoured a judicial probe by a sitting judge. Other allies, including Janata Dal (Secular) and NCP, are pressing for registration of an FIR against Mr Mani as they believe that the government was dragging its feet on the issue to save the Kerala Congress leader.
