Kozhikode: Acting on the call of union government and oil companies to renounce cooking gas subsidy, Congress MLA AP Abdullakutty decided to show the way cutting his subsidy for cooking gas. He has to pay an additional Rs 500 for LPG cylinder.

The income he gets as legislative member and of his doctor wife, are sufficient to pay the real price for cooking gas, Mr Abdullakutty said.   Paying extra Rs 500 for cylinder is not a big thing for us.

Let another more deserving official receive the subsidy, he said. The gas connection of Abdullakutty is registered in the name of Dr Rosina, his wife. “We sent a mail to the territory manager of Bharat Petroleum demanding exempting us from subsidy scheme”, Abdullakutty said.
