Mangaluru: Kicking up a fresh controversy, Sri Rama Sene founder Pramod Muthalik on Sunday said that he was ready to bear all the legal expenses of those willing to chop of the hands of rapists.
Mr Muthalik said that rapists are not scared and that is the reason there have been increasing incidents of rape in the state. “There is no fear of law among the rapists as they are not being handed out harsh punishment. Even in the Delhi rape case, the death sentence of the lower court was stayed by the higher court,” he said.
“There is a need to create fear among these people to put an end to incidents of rape. The hands of rapists should be chopped off before they are taken in by the police. The Sri Rama Sene will bear all their legal expenses,” he said.
He agreed that it was taking law into one’s hands, but defended his statement saying that it would create fear among the rapists. “We will see a difference once such punishment is meted out to the rapists. Many say that the rapists should be given death sentence, but it then means we have to kill the culprit. Instead, we can teach rapists a lesson by chopping off their hands,” he said.
On the latest campaign, Kiss of Love, to protest against moral policing, he said, “Such activities should be restricted within four walls. We had opposed the campaign in Kerala. If somebody wants to take up such a campaign in Karnataka, then we will certainly take law into our hands and stop this. We will not allow it here.”
