GITAM alumni to give facelift to Tenneti park in Visakhapatnam
The idea of Replant-Vizag has sprouted as an effort to restore the greenery in the city
Visakhapatnam: Tenneti Park, which was highly devastated during the recent cyclone Hudhud, is going to have a face lift shortly.
A team of Gitam Alumni of North America (GANAM) adopted the park which has already collected donations of around Rs 60 lakh from North America for redeveloping the park on the lines of international standards.
The project is going to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday.
The idea of Replant-Vizag has sprouted as an effort to restore the greenery in the city while the state government has been putting serious efforts to restore normalcy.
Group of volunteers from GANAM, (GITAM Alumni of North America) has been actively involved in various charity activities in USA for the past 9 years and kick started the activity of rebuilding the park in Vizag.
They partnered with various universities, colleges, schools and organisations for raising awareness among them to bring greenery back.
President of GANAM Edara Vidyasagar said they had dreamt of making the park an enjoyable one on par with beautiful parks in the United States.
He said they had contacted HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and the district collector N. Yuvaraj and placed their idea before them for necessary approvals.
“We have adopted the Park responding to a call from the state government and our main idea is to restore greenery in Tenneti Park besides improving the basic infrastructure which would be new and more attractive. We have already prepared a schematic site layout for better understanding also, which would be implemented with the support of donors” said Vidyasagar.
He also said they were raising funds to the tune of US $ 100, 000 from Gitam alumni in USA to adopt Tenneti Park and redevelop it with international standards with a tag, "Replant Vizag".
Along with basic amenities such as toilets, drinking water facilities, trashcans, seating space, landscape development; hudhud tree memorial and illumination as part of the three-phase development have been planned.
Meanwhile, Gitam School of Architecture has developed some banners on the proposed Tenneti Park Redevelopment proposal.
