Hyderabad: After nabbing a few second time electricity offenders, the vigilance team of the Southern Discom have taken up checking for first-time offenders on a large scale.
Several residential areaslike Chanchalguda, Akbar Bagh, Chawni, Azampura, Bagh-e-Jehara, Kattal-guda, Debeerpura, Saidabad and Malakpet among others are being scanned for offenders.
Vigilance sleuths have upped their activity over the last two days and have started focusing on the old city areas where hooking and meter tampering activities are reported to be more rampant.
The areas falling within the southern circle have been reporting the highest percentage of T and D (Transmission and Distribution) losses within the city, at about 40 per cent.
Over the last two days, the sleuths have scanned checked over 100 households and booked first-time cases against 15-20 offenders. The vigilance department has also started keeping online records of all offenders and is also double checking on the offenders.
In the recent past, two repeat offenders were sent to judicial remand. "The checking activity has been increased several notches over the last two months, starting with the areas with the highest T and D losses. Other parts of the city will be taken up following this," said an official from the discom.
